Teaching scientific metalanguage to foreign pre-masters at the level of preparatory training: On the basis of the “Introduction to the master’s program” textbook

Abstract

The article describes the prerequisites for creating authentic teaching materials on the metalanguage of science for pre-masters. The author presents her vision of solving the problem of language teaching for special purposes at the stage of pre-master's training in engineering universities, and offers an option for the development of methodological support for foreign pre-masters who received education in their native language and have come to Russia to study for a master's degree. Th e textbook “Introduction to the Master's Program” is used as a visual implementation of the author's methodological idea. Th e author describes its relevance, novelty, structure and differences from the existing similar materials as well as the ways of presenting an authentic material and the methodology for working with it. The competencies that will be formed during the course are also enumerated. In conclusion the author outlines some possible ways of further authentic material development in the scientific metalanguage for foreign students at engineering universities.
