The author argues that the works of the Russian writer Valentin G. Rasputin have enjoyed enduring popularity among Chinese readers and have been the focus of attention in Chinese literary studies. The paper provides a concise overview of the academic space for studying Rasputin’s writings in China through the perception, translation and study of his works, aiming to understand the role and influence of his writings in the development of Chinese literary studies. The paper summarizes the results of three types of research on Rasputin’s works in China from the 1980s to the present: translations of works, thematic studies and academic papers. It is noted that since the first exposure to Chinese readers with Rasputin’s works in the 1970s and 1980s, the writer’s works on the themes of nature, morality and homeland have garnered sustained attention from Chinese translators and scholars. The study concludes that in the 21st century, the research of Chinese scholars has shifted from the traditional literary perspectives to more comprehensive and diversified thematic analyses, leading to a fuller understanding and deeper analysis of the writer’s moral exploration, concept of homeland and pursuit of traditional culture. This shift has been accompanied by more innovative research perspectives and reflexive critical viewpoints, exploring religious and cultural themes, developing ecological literature and comparative literature, and delving deeper into the study of the writer’s work on the themes of nature, morality and homeland. The change of Chinese scholars’ perspectives in the study of Rasputin’s writings mirrors the change and development of Chinese society, the opening up and revival of Chinese literature, and also reflects a return to the history and culture roots of the Chinese literary world in the context of globalization.
