The article contains a detailed analysis of Russian studies in the Kaliningrad region, describing directions, or vectors, of research as pursued by the scholars of the Immanuel Kant Baltic Federal University in the fields of cognitive linguistics, conceptual analysis of Russian hagiography, language modality, poetics of contemporary Russian literature, linguistic semiotics and pragmatic semantics of discourse. Each of the vectors specified above is discussed in terms of the relevance of issues tackled by the scholars, their methodological approach, level of theoretical elaboration, the possibility of verifying the research results, and, finally, of their publications representativeness. Special attention is paid to the discussion of research perspectives of the areas being developed. Another issue under scrutiny is whether the connection between research and teaching is deep and systemic with each of the vectors: especially through the lens of student involvement in research activity at all levels of education, from bachelor to post-graduate. The influence of academic mobility on the intensity and effectiveness of research activity is also demonstrated. The paper draws conclusions about the general productivity and prospects of the multi-vector model of research adopted within the area of Russian studies at the Immanuel Kant Baltic Federal University.
