The relevance of the proposed article is due to the fact that the professional vocabulary used
in dentistry is replenished with transliterated terms, technicisms and calques from English. The
terminology borrowed in this way looks like Russian words with a Latin base, but the meanings of
each term oft en contradict the ones of the corresponding Latin bases, rooted in Russian language. Th e study of industry-specific dental literature, the analysis of the
terms used in it and a comparison with the terminology specified in
officially recognized international classifi cations and nomenclature
reference books revealed the presence of perceptible terminological
inaccuracies and speech errors. This is typical for both educational
and methodological, as well as scientific and clinical literature. The
article explores the terms that distort the meaning of the text and
create errors in dentists’ speech practice. For all erroneous and
incorrect word usages, the authors indicate Russian analogues
included in the standardized conceptual system of the professional
language of dentists. As one of the conclusions, it is proposed to
pay serious attention to the clarification of the conceptual content
of dental terms during the training, improvement and retraining
of dentists. At the same time, the definitions of the content of the
main professional terms should be based on officially recognized
international classifications and nomenclature reference books. The
article substantiates the need of using industry-specific normative
dictionaries and reference books on dentistry in the educational
process. When preparing manuscripts in publishing houses and
editorial offices, it is proposed to significantly improve the quality
of editorial work.
