The roundtable reports have drawn attention to the process of deconstruction of the literature of
Soviet past, on the attempts to return to the “new” Realism with the simultaneous “transformation
of reality” to the level of grotesque and absurd, as well as on the distinct manifestations of interest
in the historical narrative, reflecting the search in a more or less remote past. Contemporary
literature is interested in widespread phobias of modern society, as well as in the most popular
topics of discussions, answering to the national, gender, and political questions. The authors were
emphasizing not only processes of looking for the new facts, topics and actuality, but also for the
new entertainment, stating the need for it, since the potential for entertaining both in traditional
psychological Realism and in the Edouard Limonov’s type of auto fiction, which was extremely
popular in the last two decades, has been exhausted, as one of the speakers argued. Nevertheless,
young writers are still influenced by the principles of auto fiction in their works. A kind of
illustration of the features of this direction was the analysis of the story “Rotunda Trip. The Story
of One Project” by Tatyana Rizdvenko, proposed by Kira A. Rogova. The speakers have also noted the works and the authors, who are most obviously representing
the marked trends in the development of modern literature. In the
subsequent discussion, listeners and speakers of the roundtable were
discussing the role of literature in understanding modern reality, i.e.
the search for value guidelines, the originality of the representation
of life, the features of the formation of the hero’s image, and the
use of language resources in literary works. A particular topic for
discussion was the question of the complexity of the selection and
interpretation of the modern literary texts in the course of teaching
Russian as a foreign language.
