Abstract

The article presents the key milestones in the development of philological scholarship at
the North Caucasus Federal University (NCFU). The main scholarly directions that have not
lost their relevance at the present time are presented in the works of Yu. I. Ledenev, A. V. Popov,
V. S. Dronov, L. P. Egorova, V. M. Golovko, V. M. Gryaznova, and others. The authors also describe
laboratories and research centers, functioning on the basis of NCFU: the laboratory “Text as a
cultural phenomenon”, the scholarly and educational center “Museum of Regional Literature
and Local Literary Studies”, the research laboratory “Modern Literary Process in the North
Caucasus”, the Center for Linguistic Expertise and Testing in the Russian language, the Center
for Languages of the Peoples of the Caucasus. The authors present the activities of NCFU in the
frames of the program of modern federal university’s development, and come to the conclusion
that it is impossible to limit its activities to solving current scholarly and educational tasks. The University is becoming a center of consolidation of efforts
aimed at the development of society and the state, solving longterm tasks focused on Russia's strategic goals, i.e. strengthening
the position of the Russian language in the world, which is directly
correlated with the strengthening of Russia's role in the global
political, economic and humanitarian space. Russian Federation
is focused on strengthening the positions of the Russian language
and Russian culture in our country and in the world through the
implementation of the totality of numerous multi-format projects
and activities carried out by NCFU.
The Philological Scholarly School at NCFU is a format for a
multifaceted study of regional and national literature, language
theory, genre typology and hermeneutics, theory and practice of
studying various types of discourse, discursive practices, semiotic
systems.
